Pat Holland 1-2pm, April 28th 2008, room W240 Pat will be updating us on the progress of 'No such thing as society' the AHRC funded project examining the media representation of Public Services during the Thatcher years. The Computer Graphics and Visualisation Research Group The CGVRG will be presenting an overview of their research into new computer animation techniques. Prof. Barry Richards 1-2pm, February 25th 2008, room W240 Prof. Richards expanding on the potential of emotional governance as a benefit to political and social life by examining 'Media, Humiliation and Terror'. Prof. Stuart Allan 4-5pm, January 28th 2008, room W240 Prof. Allan has written extensively on the rise of citizen journalism, media coverage of scientific breakthroughs and children and interactive content. He will present his paper ‘Journalism Without Journalists? Rethinking Questions of Professionalism'. Dr. John Oliver 1-2pm, January 28th 2008, W240 Dr. Oliver is Head of International Development in the Media School. He will be presenting his forthcoming paper 'Making the case for action learning as an effective framework for strategy making'. Competitive businesses are complex and unpredictable environments. Often this forces strategy makers to adopt a trial and error approach with little time to reflect on the success or failure. Action learning may offer a solution. Dr. Kevin Moloney 1-2pm 15th October 2007, W240 Dr. Moloney is exploring how PR interects with the political economy and civil society in pluralist, liberal democracies. Here he discusses 'Can theories of power help us understand public relations better?' Moving beyond the traditional communication theories of Grunig to examine PR as weak propaganda. The VRG are practicing artists engaged in digital media and computer animation. They will be presenting work past and present and discussing their relatuionship with practice-led research. Alenka Jenlen 2-3pm 5th December 2007, PG141 Alenka is a lecturer in the Department of Communication at the University of Ljubljana. She will be presenting her paper 'Creating the media image of the president: The role of official sources in framing television news'
