Postgraduate Research
Bournemouth University offers a variety of qualifications that can be earned through research in areas where we have relevant expertise. In The Media School these are:
Master of Philosophy (MPhil)The MPhil is awarded to a candidate who, having critically investigated and evaluated an approved topic and demonstrated an understanding of appropriate research methods, has presented and defended a thesis by oral examination. The thesis may contain a substantial creative or practice element. An MPhil is an award in its own right or may be undertaken as preparation for a PhD. You may register to study for an MPhil on a full- or part-time basis, though please note that due to immigration restrictions overseas fee-based candidates cannot study part-time. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)The PhD is awarded to a candidate who, having critically investigated and evaluated an approved topic resulting in an independent and original contribution to knowledge and demonstrated an understanding of appropriate research methods, has presented and defended a thesis by oral examination. The thesis may contain a substantial creative or practice element. You may register to study for a PhD on a full- or part-time basis, though please note that due to immigration restrictions overseas fee-based candidates cannot study part time.
