Out and About ArchiveOur academics and students are active members of the research community. Here we present a small selection of past conferences, papers, exhibitions and projects. 2008June Prof. Stuart Allan will be presenting at News for Young People in the Age of Digital Media, a one day conference, 24th June, White City Conference Centre. The day draws on original research conducted by Allan, Carter, Messenger Davies and Medes as part of a joint BBC/AHRC project 'What do Children Want from the BBC? Children’s Content and Participatory Environments in an Age of Citizen Media'. Pat Holland will also be speaking as part of the roundtable discussion 'Minding the Gap: News Provision for Teens.' John Foster is presenting his play Little Boy about Hiroshima pilot Claude Eatherly at the Edingburgh Fringe. The play is part of John's PhD examining memory and film. There will be a special preview in Bournemouth on June 24th. May PhD Researcher Sukhpreet Singh presented at the International IP & Creative Industries Conference held at Birkbeck College, University of London on the 22nd and 23rd May 2008. Sukhpreet is researching intellectual property rights and international television formats. You can access his paper here. Paula Callus has been engaged in fieldwork in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Paula was observing the development of Project Ngando, the first feature length stop-motion film to be made by a Congolese director, J.M Kibushi. Dr. John Oliver will be presenting a paper on how media organisations can develop effective corporate and marketing strategies using an action learning methodology. International Action Learning Conference February Prof. Barry Richards will be part of a discussion panel examining the impact of media imagery of traumatic events on our social and emotional wellbeing. Screening Emotion will be chaired by David Aaronovich, Waterstones, Piccadilly, London. Feb 29th Neal White will be exhibiting as part of (sk)interfaces at FACT Dr. John Oliver will be presenting our Doctorate in Business Administration (Communication) and (Media) to practioners in media, PR and creative industries at the Broadcast Live and Video Forum Exhibition 2008 January Dr. Kevin Moloney will be presenting a lecture on 'Public Relations and Politics' to the Friends of Corfe mullen. Prof. Sean Street will be presenting The Archive Hour 2007December Prof. Barry Richards gave an invited presentation at ‘Turning Psychosocial’ Conference Birkbeck College, University of London. The event examined the diversity of psychosocial studies in the UK, its extent, importance, influence and aimed for the creation of a forum to critically evaluate this emerging field. 17th Dec November Claudia Vieira Prof. Barry Richards delivered the keynote address to the Annual Conference of Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association

Dr. Kevin Moloney gave an invited presentation ‘Can theories of power help us understand public relations better?’ to the Culture, Politics and Production Group, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Prof. Sean Street presented his programme 'The Splintered city – The 1917 Halifax Explosion' February Dr. Valery Adzhiev gave the guest lecture "Functionally-based Shape Modelling: an Introduction" to Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick. Richard Scullion gave a paper on the 'Accidental Citizen' to the Political Studies Association’s January Prof. Stuart Allan. gave the invited talk ‘Tellings of Truth: Citizen Journalism and the Internet,’ to the Cambridge Media Research Group, University of Cambridge.
