The Chinese Scholarship Council has announced that it will fund 5 Chinese students to join the National Centre for Computer Animation for three years full-time PhD research and studies. Prof. Jian Jun Zhang head of the Computer Animation Research Centre, the research arm of the NCCA, is delighted with the news. ‘This will both attract top Chinese research students and promote the reputation of the NCCA at the highest official academic level in China.’ The CSC Scholarship programme is incredibly prestigious. There are over two thousand universities in China but the CSC programme is only open to the 100 ‘elite’ universities in the top two tiers. The award to Bournemouth also points to a cultural change within Chinese academia. Previously the scholarship programme has been linked to the UK’s ‘top’ universities, now the funding is increasingly awarded to institutions that clearly demonstrate excellence in a particular field. It is gratifying that the work of the Media School and the NCCA has been recognised at this international level. Related Stories |
