8th Annual MeCCSA-PGN Conference

4&5 July 2011

MeCCSA Postgraduate Network Conference 2011

The Bournemouth University Media School is proud to host the 8th Annual Media, Communications, and Cultural Studies Association - Postgraduate Network Conference.

4 & 5 July 2011 at the Executive Business Centre.

The Postgraduate Network (MeCCSA - PGN) is part of the Media, Communications and Cultural Studies Association, which is the subject association for those who teach and research within those diverse fields. This interdisciplinary conference, which is sponsored by the Art, Design and Media Subject Centre of the Higher Education Academy (ADM-HEA), gives an opportunity to postgraduates, as well as early year postdoctoral researchers to share their work on any topic related to the fields of media, communication and cultural studies.

In addition to papers, the conference will also include engaging and interesting keynote and plenary lectures, as well as workshops on publishing, presenting research, and teaching. There will also be plenty of opportunity to network, including a planned beach barbecue (weather permitting) and other social events.

Register to attend the conference

We look forward to welcoming you.

Networking & Social Events

In addition to frequent tea breaks at the conference, you’ll have a chance to network and socialise with other delegates at a variety of social events during the conference.

    Sunday, 3 July, from 18.00
    Welcome Reception

Come join the Bournemouth University conference organisers for drinks at 60 Million Postcards, 19-21 Exeter Road, Bournemouth. We'll be at the bar from 18.00 on 3 July and would love to welcome you to Bournemouth. It's a casual affair, so come as you are. You'll find us in brightly coloured BU shirts, so you can't miss us.

    Monday, 4 July, from 19.30
    Beach Barbecue

We’ll be capping off the first day of conference activities with a beach barbecue near Bournemouth Pier. So come put your feet in the sand of a blue flag beach and enjoy traditional barbecue fare. Walking guides will be leaving the conference venue intermittently from 18.30 to bring you to the beach. We’ll also have a guide at Bournemouth Pier from 19.00 to point you in the right direction if you venture back to your hotel or into Bournemouth Square before the event.

Monday, 4 July, from approximately 21.00
    Pub Quiz & Evening Social

After the barbecue winds down, we’ll head to Aruba – the restaurant, not the island – for the traditional MeCCSA pub quiz and other fun. The restaurant and bar is located on Pier Approach and overlooks the beach. So, be ready for some fun and challenging questions around media, communications and cultural studies… among other topics.
