Dr. Oliver is Head of International Development in the Media School. He will be presenting his forthcoming paper 'Making the case for action learning as an effective framework for strategy making'. Competitive businesses are complex and unpredictable environments. Often this forces strategy makers to adopt a trial and error approach with little time to reflect on the success or failure. Action learning may offer a solution.

Prof. Harman
is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the American University Cairo. He has written on Heidegger and is currently championing the work of Latour as 'the most refreshing philosophy of the present day'. Prof. Harman is intrerested in creating an object-orientated philosophy that restores objects to a life of their own freeing them from modern philosophies reduction to a language game. He will be presenting his talk 'The Greatness of McLuhan'.

Dr. Moloney is exploring how PR interects with the political economy and civil society in pluralist, liberal democracies. Here he discusses 'Can theories of power help us understand public relations better?' Moving beyond the traditional communication theories of Grunig to examine PR as weak propaganda.

is a Senior Lecturer at University West of England in Culture, Media and Drama, and Practice Section Chair at MECCSA. A practicing film maker as well as a theorist she will be discussing how to contextualise practice as research.
