Skillset Screen & Media Academy
Bournemouth University's Media School is one of only two institutions to receive both Screen and Media Academy status from Skillset, the sector skills council for creative media, in partnership with the Arts University College at Bournemouth (AUCB). Bournemouth Screen and Media Academy was created with funding from Skillset and grants from South West Screen combined with an investment from Bournemouth University. We are one of seven Academies, and the only one in England outside the London area. We are also one of only two Skillset Screen and Media Academies in the UK. Shortcuts:
FundingThe new Bournemouth Screen and Media Academy will share in funding worth over £5million across a national network, secured by Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the audio visual industries and the UK Film Council. The status will ensure that the Media School and the AUCB become the only Skillset centres of excellence in the South of England in all areas of filmmaking. What this means to BU studentsSeven academies in England, Scotland and Wales will work together to provide new courses (including the first ever film MBA), summer schools, work placements, master classes, bursaries, online learning resources and a talent scout programme. "This is a tremendous achievement for the University and the AUCB which firmly recognises and secures Bournemouth as a focal point for the future of film-making in the UK", says Stephen Jukes, Head of the Media School. "We are very pleased to be working closely with the Arts Institute (formally known); this is an excellent opportunity for us to build on our collective strengths."
