New Writers' Circle in Bournemouth
The Media School at Bournemouth University and The Writers' Guild of Great Britain have collaborated to form a new Writers Circle in Bournemouth.
John Foster, Screenwriter in Residence at Bournemouth University and a member of the Writers' Guild, will be chairing the circle, and feels that it's important to bring writers in the community together:
"I think it's good to encourage everyone who writes to come together where they can have their work read, and listened to. Writing can be a very isolated activity, so it's great to get feedback so that local writers can build on," he says.
Moe from the Writers' Guild said that working collaboratively with BU was vital:
"We're delighted that the Writer's Circle in Bournemouth is going to be chaired by a Writer's Guild member. We want to have circles in areas outside of London so that our members who live all over the UK don't miss out on this opportunity."
All kinds of writing will be read and discussed, from scripts to plays, and from poems to prose. The Circle will meet every two or three weeks, is open to members of the public and admission is free. It is possible that the circle may branch off into smaller groups where writers of specific genres can get together and discuss their work.
A showcase of work produced by Circle members as well as rehearsed readings by actors are planned as upcoming activities for the Circle.
The Writer's Circle kicks off at 6pm on Monday 26th November in the Weymouth House Screening Theatre - room W241. A discussion about the aims of the circle and hopefully some initial readings will take place. If you would like to attend, please email John Foster on jfoster@bournemouth.ac.uk. John will also be meeting anyone who is unfamiliar with the University in the main reception area, (Poole House Reception) at 5:45pm on Monday.
